JPM - CIMB PREFERRED TIME CHALLENGE ’10 THE SUCCESSFUL SEQUEL OF MALAYSIA‘S MOST EPIC SUPERCAR EVENT
31st October 2010
The JPM CIMB Preferred Time Challenge ‘10 concluded on a high note as all proceedings during the event were carried out perfectly. Being only the 2nd time this event has been organized; the overwhelmingly positive outcome definitely suggests that this should be a staple event in JPM Motorsport’s yearly calendar.
The JPM CIMB Preferred Time Challenge ‘10 took over 120 participating drivers on a thrilling drive through a scenic 8km route in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, who set and challenged their own time handicaps in 3 main categories: The CIMB Preferred Uphill Time Challenge, The CIMB Preferred Downhill Time Challenge and The CIMB Preferred Combined Time Challenge. It incorporates a unique format that allows participants to be competitive and safe at the same time in a minimally controlled environment.
There were other sub-events on the day which included the REWIND Classic Performance Time Challenge, featuring only Classic cars taking on the hill climb and descend; the Top 1 Oil Time Attack event, which challenged participants to set a fastest time on a short autocross course; and the all new JPM Supercar/Lotus Time Target Pursuit Challenge, where participants competed to post a time closest to a preset time of 4 minutes 30 seconds in an uphill climb.
The first day of the event – 29 October 2010 – allowed participants to get a feel of the route through practice runs that lasted throughout the afternoon and into the evening. It was through these runs that participants obtained and declared their time handicaps. Wrapping up the more leisurely day was a full drivers briefing conducted later in the evening, where both participants and event officials were prepared for the following day.
Saturday, 30 October 2010 and the twisty roads of Berjaya Hills echoed with the sounds of roaring, screaming and thundering engines. Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis and other exotic automobile Marques roamed the narrow mountain roads. The fire assembly area of Colmar Tropical was turned into a truly magnificent car park, playing host to a wide array of the finest automobiles that included ultra exclusive cars like the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Aston Martin DBS, Mercedes Benz AMG SLS, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and even a classic CAV GT40 in Gulf Racing livery.
The hill buzzed with activity all the way into the night as participants mingled and socialised, while the weekend crowds started arriving. Adding to the prestige of the day’s atmosphere were the displays of cars from Lotus Cars Malaysia, BMW Pendragon Auto and Tesla. Lotus Cars Malaysia had on display at the start-finish point, the recently launched elegant but fast Lotus Evora (which unofficially clocked the fastest downhill dry run of 5 minutes flat posted during practice) and the popular Lotus Exige S. Termed by many as “pure driver’s cars”, the display cars were further supported by a show of capabilities by the Lotus Cars Club Malaysia participants tackling the hill course. BMW Pendragon Auto had on display the very limited, one of two units in Malaysia, BMW M3 Coupe in “Frozen Grey”. Flanking it were the BMW Z4 coupe as well as the midsized performance based 335i, while Tesla featured the Tesla Roadster, which was also open to test drives for the curious on-lookers. The unique, fully electric sports supercar did not fail to put smiles of awe on the faces of all who experienced it.
The CIMB Preferred Downhill Time Challenge commenced at its scheduled time of 8:30am, followed by the REWIND Classic Performance Time Challenge, the CIMB Preferred Uphill Time Challenge and the JPM Supercar/Lotus Time Target Pursuit. While these categories were in progress, the Top 1 Oil Time Attack session, which took place on the resort’s roof top car park, was running concurrently. It was a day of pure automotive bliss for participants and spectators.
The three days also proved to be a haven for automotive photographers and videographers as a gathering of uber-rare machines of this scale isn’t something that happens every day. Hence, the CIMB Preferred Photo Hunt Contest and the JPM-GZox Photo Challenge ’10 was organized, and it was the perfect avenue for camera wielders to test their abilities. The CIMB Preferred Photo Hunt Contest catered more towards the participants of the JPM CIMB Preferred Time Challenge ‘10, more so to capture the moment in the most creative of ways for remembrance while the JPM-GZox Photo Challenge ’10 is for the general public to capture the essence of the event. Photographers took the opportunity to work their index fingers to the core vying for attractive prizes from both CIMB Preferred and GZox.
The day’s proceedings drew to a close with an exclusive Gala Dinner held at the resort ballroom, where participants were given a celebrity’s welcome via red carpet, pass a photo wall to have their photos taken, and eventually to one of the many elegantly decorated tables in the ballroom. During the dinner, results were announced and prizes were awarded to participants, which included trophies from Royal Selangor Pewter, cash prizes sponsored by CIMB Preferred and timepieces courtesy of Cortina Watch. There was also an element of charity during the Gala Dinner, as a limited edition jelly mould from Royal Selangor was auctioned off at RM3,000 for the Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Foundation.

On 31 October 2010, the closing day of the event, participants convoyed with escort services from the Royal Malaysian Police to Royal Selangor Pewter at Setapak, where the Cancer Foundation Charity Breakfast and jelly-moulding session was held. After the visit, participants went their separate ways as Ferrari owners headed to Pavilion KL for the “Largest Gathering of Ferrari Owners” event, while the track fanatics adjourned to the Sepang International Circuit for Zerotohundred’s Time To Attack Round 3. It was the perfect way to close the curtains of the JPM CIMB Preferred Time Challenge ‘10.
